Frustrations can run high on both ends when parents try to help their own children with schoolwork. Sometimes having a third party involved is the perfect solution. Whether you want help for a student who is struggling in a certain area, extra practice with specific skills to prepare a child for school, or you want to keep a gifted student adequately challenged, hiring a private tutor has many benefits:
- there is no substitute for individualized, one-on-one instruction. I work with one student at a time, so your child will always have 100% of my attention.
- you can set an appointment with me at any time if you have questions or concerns. My hope is that we will be a team, including your child’s teacher (if desired), in helping your student achieve his/her goals.
- you are welcome to see your student’s work at any time, and I will also send home regular notes letting you know what we accomplish during the sessions.
- I can tutor in a general subject area, or practice a specific skill - like listening, note-taking, or test-taking.
- I can help guide your student with a report or special project for school.
- I can offer homework support.
As an elementary teacher, I have experience tutoring every subject except high-level math and high school content areas (chemistry, history, etc.), although I often work with high school students in core skills like reading or writing. I prefer to tutor in my own home where I can control the working environment and minimize distractions, and my current rate is $30 per hour.
